Westport Custom Seafood LLC recently completed the purchase of Merino Seafoods from Jerry and Adrianne Doyle, owners and operators of the business for the past two years.
The purchase includes the retail fresh and processed seafood sales market and adjacent seafood cannery located on the corner of E. Harbor Street and N. Nyhus Avenue in Westport’s Marina District.
Bob & Rose return
With the purchase comes the welcomed return of popular former market and cannery manager Bob Moore, who worked at the business for more than a decade when it was owned by Joe and Roberta Merino. Returning with Bob is longtime former sales clerk Rose Donovick. “We are both delighted to be back and welcome all of our old friends and new customers,” said Moore.
Large variety of offerings
Merino’s Seafoods offers retail sales of fresh seafoods, including salmon, prawns, shrimp, halibut, crab, smoked salmon and tuna, as well as a wide variety of canned seafoods, including several with special flavorings. Purchases by the pound or individual ready-to-eat servings are available. There’s even seating out front so customers can relax while enjoying fresh seafood daily.
Packaging & processing
The cannery offers packaging and processing for charter and sport fishers, along with custom processing services for small-batch seafood canning.
You can get your catch of the day filleted or custom processed to your specifications. Trade your catch for pre-canned products or have your fish vacuum packed and frozen with a variety of cuts, vacuum bag sizes and trays available.
“We plan to immediately expand our retail offerings, as well as custom canning options,” said Mike Cornman, who is operations manager for Westport Custom, Seafoods’ various operations, including Westport Seafood Exchange on Neddie Rose Drive and the newly constructed Westport Cold seafood cold storage facility on N. Nyhus Avenue.
Merino’s Seafood Market is open daily at 7 a.m.
