Library Comic Strip Contest

Now - Aug 31 - Comic Strip Contest for teens. Enter your 5-panel comic strip, online June 10-Aug. 31. Winning entries will be featured on Teen Facebook, Tumblr, the TRL website and published as a bookmark. Must be entering grades 6-12 to enter. This event is part of Summer Reading, a Timberland Regional Library district-wide program.

Cancer support group

July 9 - A cancer support group meets at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall at Calvary Lutheran Church, at the corner of Oak and Sumner in Aberdeen.

The support group is for patients, families, survivors, caregivers and those wanting to talk, listen, learn and find hope.

The group meets every Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m.

PSA Ocean Anglers

July 11 - PSA Ocean Anglers will meet at 6 p.m. at McCausland Hall in Westport’s Marina District. The meeting will be a round table Tuna Talk featuring Dave McGowen of the Ms Magoo, Mark Coleman of All Rivers and Saltwater Charters and Darrel Johnson of Far Corners Charters. All are welcome. July 14 - Grays Harbor Fire District #3 commissioners’ monthly meetings are held at Old Westport City Hall at 506. N. Montesano St. in uptown Westport. Use the door next to the former Police Department entrance.

Tokeland/North Cove Chamber

July 14 – The Tokeland/North Cove Chamber of Commerce board will meet at the North Willapa Grange Hall at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited. Refreshments will be served.

All individuals interested in the community, whether you are a business owner or not, are welcome to come and express your ideas and share your community needs.

The organization meets on the second Tuesday of each month.

Tokeland/North Cove Neighborhood Watch

July 14 - North Pacific County (Tokeland/North Cove) Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held at the Shoalwater Bay Tribal Center meeting room from 6-8 p.m. Lee Shipman will talk about out new Mobile Command Center.

Library Hometown Heroes

July 16 – For children - Westport Firefighters, 1:30-3 p.m., for children. Firefighters from the Westport Fire Department will bring their fire truck and do a gear demonstration! Children can craft their own firefighter helmets and enjoy a firefighter story time. More info: 360- 268-0521.

GH League of Women Voters

July 22 - The Grays Harbor League of Women Voters will meet at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 723 Eklund Avenue, in Hoquiam.

The League meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

Elk River Challenge

July 25 - Bring your kayak, canoe, rowboat, or surfboard with paddles or oars, and don’t forget your life vest and whistle! Human-powered race starts at Brady’s Oysters at the foot of the Elk River Bridge and goes into the Elk River estuary and back over a 7-mile or 2-mile round-trip course. More info: 360- 268-9712

American Legion

July 28 - Westport American Legion Post #140 and its Ladies Auxiliary will meet in the VFW Youth Center for a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. meeting. The Youth Center is located behind the VFW Post Home at 211 E. Pacific Ave. in Westport.

Meetings are held the 4th Tuesday of each month February through November.

VFW Men’s Auxiliary

Aug. 3 - Westport South Beach VFW Post #3057 Men’s Auxiliary will meet at 6 p.m. in the VFW Post Home in Westport. All Men’s Auxiliary members and potential members are encouraged to attend. The group meets the first Monday of each month.

SBCO Board meeting

Aug. 4 - The monthly South Beach Christian Outreach (SBCO) board meeting is held at 3:30 p.m. at Living Hope Church, located at 617 S. Forrest St. in uptown Westport.

Anyone interested in learning more about how SBCO helps neighbors in need in our community or volunteering to help is welcome to attend. The organization is currently looking for two new board members. The board meets the first Tuesday of each month.

Outreach Spaghetti Dinner

Aug. 4 - South Beach Christian Outreach (SBCO) will offer a fundraising spaghetti dinner at Living Hope Church, located at 617 S. Forrest St. in uptown Westport.

The menu includes spaghetti with meat sauce, salad and bread. Dinner will be served from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

A $5 donation is requested to help defray the cost of your meal and to help neighbors in need on the South Beach.

These spaghetti fundraisers are offered the first Tuesday of each month.

Grayland Neighborhood Watch

Aug. 6 - Members of Grayland Neighborhood Watch and all other interested South Beach citizens will meet at 7 p.m. at the Grayland Community Hall this month. GH County Commissioner Frank Gorton is the scheduled guest speaker. All South Beach citizens are invited to attend.

The group meets the first Thursday of each month.

Parks & Rec meeting

Aug. 4 - South Beach Parks & Recreation District commission members will meet at 6 p.m. at the Grayland Community Hall. The District owns and manages the Grayland Community Hall and its surrounding grounds.

All community members residing within the boundaries of the Ocosta School District are automatically members of the Parks & Recreation District. Public attendance at meetings, participation and suggestions are encouraged and welcomed.

The commissioners meet the first Tuesday of each month, with the exception of the next meeting. That meeting will be held Monday, Aug. 8.

GH Corvette meeting

Aug. 4 - The next Grays Harbor Corvette Club meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. upstairs in the Aberdeen Top Foods meeting area.

All Corvette owners are welcome and encouraged to attend. The club meets the first Tuesday of each month.

Aug. 6 - The Grays Harbor Democratic Party Club will meet at 7 p.m. at the Polish Club, 823 West First Street, Aberdeen. The group meets the first Thursday of each month except on holidays.

Aug. 6 - Members of Grayland Neighborhood Watch and all other interested South Beach citizens will meet at 7 p.m. at the Grayland Community Hall this month. All South Beach citizens are invited to attend.

South Beach Fire & EMS Board

Aug. 6 - The South Beach Fire and EMS Board meets in Westport City Council chambers on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

The public is welcome to attend.

Grayland Open Jet Ski Competition

Monthly Writers Group

Aug. 8 - South Beach Writers Group meets from Noon to 2 p.m. in the Westport library meeting room for writers high school age and older.

Bring an excerpt to read: Poem, short story, blog or book chapter. The goal is to inspire and encourage fellow writers. New members always welcome.

GH Genealogy Society

Aug. 8 - Grays Harbor Genealogy Society will meet Saturday at the Hoquiam Timberland Library at 621 K St. Doors open by 9:30 a.m. with the meeting starting at 10 a.m. Visitors welcome.

Experimental Aircraft

Aug. 12 - Grays Harbor Chapter 367 of the Experimental Aircraft Assn. will meet at the Simpson Ave. Grill in Hoquiam next to Swanson’s. Dinner at 6 p.m. Meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Pilots’ Lounge at Bowerman Field. Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month.
